On 8 November 2010, the German government presented a draft law to implement Directive 2009\/28\/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (European Law Adaptation Act on Renewable Energies - EAG EE). Directive 2009\/28\/EC stipulates that at least 18 % of the energy consumed in Germany must come from renewable sources by 2020.<\/p>\n
In order to achieve this goal, further measures are to be introduced through the new amendment, including, for example, the introduction of an electronic register that can be used to verify the origin of electricity from renewable energy sources. From 2012, public buildings are also to take on a role model function for the expansion of renewable energies in the heat supply.<\/p>\n
As a consequence, the planned amendment to the law is primarily intended to adapt the Renewable Energies Act (\"EEG\") and the Renewable Energies Heat Act (\"EEW\u00e4rmeG\") to the EU Directive.<\/p>\n
