Your fixed-term employment contract expires and nobody is talking about extending it. Or worse: you find out three weeks before the end that there will be no further employment. Now you are faced with the question of whether you have to accept this - or whether you can defend yourself against it. The answer depends on whether the fixed term of your employment contract was effective at all. Because many fixed-term contracts are not. And if the fixed term is ineffective, you are entitled under the Part-Time and Fixed-Term Employment Act (TzBfG) to continue to be employed for an indefinite period.
